     Jesse's Pictures from Austria

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

April 26, 2006

Hello everyone and welcome to the first installment of Where’s Jesse. I guess we should call this one Where’d Jesse go? Since I just up and left the scene without so much as a goodbye. Well, I’ve been around, I can tell you that much for sure. Since I started working full time at Dirt Rider magazine, I’ve been just about everywhere a motorcycle can take you. Recently, I just returned from a 5,000 mile road trip that spanned from the insanity that is Los Angeles, up to Montana, through the emptiness of Wyoming, into the top of Utah and back down to the Dirt Rider offices in California. It was a trip solely for work—as I was getting a pile of content for some winter-issue stories we have coming up—but I managed to sneak a week out of the trip to hang back at home in Missoula. It was nice being home. Don’t ever leave Montana…unless, of course, you can ride motorcycles for a living. In that case, pack your bags and go wherever the job takes you. That’s what I did!

Anyway, my trip was great. I permanently butt-dented the driver’s seat of a Toyota Tacoma and managed to get a sunburn and frostbite in the same week. If you don’t consider that success, then fooey on you. You can check out the work I did (and some crazy snow contraptions) in the upcoming issues of Dirt Rider or, if you want to see some local Missoula scenery, pick up a copy of MiniRider (DR’s little brother) at the newsstand and check out my Bring in the Clone! Story. I shot it at my mom’s house. Cool, huh? Thanks Mom!

There is some cool stuff coming up in the world of motocross, supercross and off-road. Supercross is, well you know, friggin’ insane right now. Keep your eyes on this series, it’s likely never to be as good. The outdoor nationals are getting ready to rev up with Hangtown less than a month away and the HCMA series is only…what’s that? It already started? Son-of-a-b*&$%! I can’t believe I missed the first round! Do you know the last time I didn’t race the first HCMA race was? About 1993. Seriously. That sucks. As much fun as living in California, riding all the time, having cool bikes to ride and basically living every moto-head’s dream is, I’d still almost rather be lining up under the Anaconda hills for a couple motos. I will definitely make it up there for a race or two. It’s a must.

Okay, back to the world of dirt bikes. Off-road racing is really crazy right now. Did you know there are two rounds of the World Enduro series coming to North America? It’s true. There’s one in Hancock, New York and the other in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada. Check out www.usgpenduro.com and www.gbcountry.com for more info. Also in off-road are the always insane European Red Bull events. First is the Erzberg rodeo. Pastrana rode this last year as well as my boss Jimmy “I can’t believe it’s not harder” Lewis. And, believe it or not, I’m actually going to ride the new KTM 950 SuperEnduro (www.ktm.com) for the press intro and hopefully ride the main race. I said ride because racing this is out of the question for my skill level or desire.

So, that’s what I’m up to. I hope everyone at home is doing well. Did you notice the new look of montanamotocross.com? Well, I have “mean” Dean Olsen from H-town teamed up with me to keep the site going with all the good stuff. If you have any questions, suggestions or ideas, e-mail Dean or myself from the contact us page and we’ll get back to you ASAP.

That’s all for now, ride hard and try to be good.
